Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 26/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for Southeast Gulf of
Carpentaria waters for Monday morning.

Weather Situation
A high [1026hPa] situated over South Australia extends a ridge across
southern and western Queensland. The high is expected to move eastwards into New
South Wales while maintaining the ridge across southern and western Queensland
on Monday. A slow moving surface trough is situated over eastern Queensland. An
upper trough is otherwise moving over the southern Queensland interior.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Isolated showers along the tropical east coast and about the northern
interior. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms about central districts
and the Wide Bay and Burnett district. Fine and mostly clear over the remainder
of the state. Light to moderate SE to NE winds along the east coast, fresh at
times north of Cairns. Generally moderate SW to SE winds elsewhere, fresh at
times about western districts.
Forecast for Monday
Isolated showers about the east coast and adjacent inland areas, tending
scattered with possible isolated thunderstorms about the southern and Wide Bay
coasts and the Capricornia district. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of
the state. Early frost patches about the southern and southeast interior.
Generally, light to moderate S to SE winds, fresh at times along the east coast
and about the Gulf Country.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high will continue to move eastwards into the Tasman Sea and will extend
a ridge along the Queensland east coast. Isolated showers will occur about the
east coast and adjacent inland areas. Early frost patches are possible about the
southeast interior, mainly about the Granite Belt. Fine and mostly sunny
conditions will occur over the remainder of the state, with warm to hot daytime
temperatures developing across western districts.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high will be situated over New Zealand and will continue to extend a
ridge along the Queensland east coast. A trough will move eastwards across
central Australia and enter western Queensland in the evening. Isolated showers
will continue along exposed parts of the east coast. Early frost patches are
possible about the Granite Belt. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will occur
over the remainder of the state. Hot and gusty winds ahead of the trough will
lead to increasing fire dangers over the southwest of the state.
Forecast for Thursday
The trough will continue to move eastwards across southern Queensland and
approach central and southeast districts in the evening. Another high will begin
to move eastwards across southern Australia and extend a ridge across western
Queensland in the wake of the trough. Isolated showers will occur along exposed
parts of the east coast. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms will occur
about the southern and southeast interior in the unstable and warm N'ly winds
ahead of the trough. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will occur over the
remainder of the state, with hot daytime temperatures across western and
southeast districts.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The trough will move eastwards across central and southeast Queensland on
Friday and into the Coral Sea on Saturday. The second high will move across
southeastern Australia on Friday and enter the Tasman Sea over the weekend. The
high should begin to extend a ridge along the Queensland east coast by Sunday.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms will be possible about central and southeast
districts on Friday and Saturday. Isolated showers should continue along parts
of the tropical east coast, before developing along remaining parts of the east
coast on Sunday. Fine and mostly sunny conditions should occur over the
remainder of the state.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Monday.
