MELBOURNE - Aug 25/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A ridge extends along the north tropical Queensland coast. A surface trough lies over eastern Queensland with a humid and unstable airmass to its east. An upper trough will begin to move across the southern Queensland interior during today. A high [1027 hPa] over South Australia extends a ridge over western and southern inland Queensland with dry conditions. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Morning fogs over the eastern tropics. Isolated showers over the east, increasing to scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over central districts and the Wide Bay and Burnett during the day. Early frosts over the southern and southeast interior. Fine over the remainder of the state. Light to moderate SE to NE winds along the east coast, fresh at times north of Cairns. Generally moderate SW to SE winds elsewhere, fresh at times about western districts. A high to very high fire danger in the Darling Downs and Granite Belt district. Forecast for Monday The high over South Australia will move eastwards across New South Wales and into the Tasman Sea by the evening. The upper trough will continue to move eastwards across southern Queensland before moving offshore during the day. Isolated showers will occur about the east coast and adjacent inland areas, tending scattered with possible isolated thunderstorms about the southern coast and Capricornia. Early frost patches are expected over the southern and southeast interior. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will occur over the remainder of the state. Forecast for Tuesday The high will continue to be situated over the Tasman Sea and will extend a ridge along the Queensland east coast. Isolated showers will occur about the east coast and adjacent inland in the moist onshore wind flow. Early frost patches remain possible about the southeast interior, mainly about the Granite Belt. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will occur over the remainder of the state, with warm to hot daytime temperatures developing across western districts. Forecast for Wednesday The high will be situated over New Zealand and will extend a ridge along the Queensland east coast. A trough will move eastwards across central Australia and enter western Queensland in the evening. Isolated showers will continue along exposed parts of the east coast. Early frost patches will contract to the Granite Belt. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will occur over the remainder of the state. Hot and gusty winds ahead of the trough will lead to increasing fire dangers over the southwest of the state. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday The trough will move east across southern Queensland on Thursday before moving into central and southeast Queensland on Friday. A high moving slowly eastwards across southern Australia will begin to extend a ridge along the Queensland east coast in the wake of the trough. The trough will most likely generate some showers and thunderstorms across southern, southeastern and central districts with its passage. Isolated showers will continue along parts of the tropical east coast. Fine conditions will occur over the remainder of the state, with warm to hot daytime temperatures across western and southern districts ahead of the trough on Thursday.
