MELBOURNE - Aug 25/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front located over the southwest will cross southern Victoria tonight, reaching the Tasman Sea by early Sunday. A high pressure system will then move across southern NSW later Sunday, reaching the Tasman Sea on Monday. A trough will approach the western border late Tuesday then weaken and slip southeastwards overnight ahead of a stronger cold front entering western districts later Wednesday. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayScattered showers near the coast and about the northeast ranges, falling as snow above 1000 metres. Cloudy with isolated showers over most remaining districts, contracting to southern areas during the evening. Generally cool with fresh northwesterly winds, stronger about the coast, ahead of the southwest change extending from the west tonight.Sunday 26 AugustIsolated showers mainly on and south of the ranges, more widespread at first about the coast and northeast ranges but contracting to southern areas during the day and clearing throughout by the evening. Showers falling as snow above 1000 metres. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh westerly winds, strong at times on the coast.Monday 27 AugustCold at first with early morning frost and fog patches. Then a mild and mainly sunny day to follow although cloud developing in the southwest late afternoon. Light to moderate north to northwest winds, freshening in the west during the afternoon and local seabreezes about the Gippsland coast.Tuesday 28 AugustEarly morning fog and frost patches in the east. Cloud increasing with isolated showers over the west, extending through central areas during the day and becoming more widespread over the southwest. Mild with moderate to fresh northerly winds.Wednesday 29 AugustMostly cloudy with scattered showers in the southwest and about the northeast ranges, isolated showers elsewhere. Showers falling as snow above 1800 metres.
