Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 25/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A weak surface trough is situated near the central Queensland coast and is
expected to gradually move slowly inland on Sunday. A high situated over South
Australia is otherwise extending a weak ridge across southern Queensland. An
upper trough will begin to move across southern Queensland on Sunday.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Isolated showers about central districts and also along the tropical east
coast. Fine over the remainder of the state. Light to moderate S to SW winds
over the interior. Light to moderate SE to NE winds along the east coast, fresh
at times north of Cairns. Light to moderate SW to SE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Sunday
Morning fog areas about central districts, breaking to isolated afternoon
showers and possible thunderstorms. Isolated showers along the tropical east
coast. Early frost patches over the southern and southeast interior. Fine over
the remainder of the state. Light to moderate SE to NE winds along the east
coast, fresh at times north of Cairns. Generally moderate S to SE winds
elsewhere, fresh at times about western districts. A high to very high fire
danger in the Darling Downs and Granite Belt district.
Forecast for Monday
The high over South Australia will move eastwards across New South Wales and
into the Tasman Sea by the evening. The upper trough will continue to move
eastwards across southern Queensland before moving offshore during the day.
Isolated showers will occur about the east coast and adjacent inland areas with
possible isolated thunderstorms about the Wide Bay and Burnett and Capricornia
districts. Early frost patches are expected over the southern and southeast
interior. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will occur over the remainder of the
state.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high will continue to be situated over the Tasman Sea and will extend a
ridge along the Queensland east coast. Isolated showers will occur along the
east coast in the moist onshore wind flow. Early frost patches remain possible
about the southeast interior, mainly about the Granite Belt. Fine and mostly
sunny conditions will occur over the remainder of the state, with warm to hot
daytime temperatures developing across western districts.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high will be situated over New Zealand and will extend a ridge along the
Queensland east coast. A trough will move eastwards across central Australia and
enter western Queensland in the evening. Isolated showers will continue along
exposed parts of the east coast. Early frost patches will contract to the
Granite Belt. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will occur over the remainder of
the state. Hot and gusty winds ahead of the trough will lead to increasing fire
dangers over the southwest of the state.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
The trough will move east across southern Queensland on Thursday before
moving into central Queensland on Friday. A high moving slowly eastwards across
southern Australia will begin to extend a ridge along the Queensland east coast
in the wake of the trough. The trough will generate isolated showers and
possible thunderstorms across southern, southeastern and central districts with
its passage. Isolated showers will continue along parts of the tropical east
coast. Fine conditions will occur over the remainder of the state, with warm to
hot daytime temperatures across western and southern districts ahead of the
trough on Thursday.
