MELBOURNE - Aug 24/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system will move across southern Tasmania this evening before moving away to the southeast. A cold front will cross southern Victoria on Saturday night, reaching the Tasman Sea by early Sunday. A weak high pressure system will then move across southern NSW on Sunday, reaching the Tasman Sea on Monday. A trough over South Australia on Tuesday will approach the western border late in the day. Forecast for the rest of FridayScattered showers, isolated over the northwest but remaining dry over the far southeast. Small hail possible with showers near the coast and the northeast. Isolated thunderstorms possible over South Gippsland. Showers falling as snow above 1000 metres. Fresh west to northwesterly winds, strong and squally near the coast and elevated areas.Saturday 25 AugustScattered showers over the southwest, central coast and about the northeast ranges. Isolated showers developing over most remaining districts. Generally cool with fresh northwesterly winds, stronger about the west and central coast.Sunday 26 AugustScattered showers in the southwest and about the eastern ranges and isolated showers elsewhere. Showers contracting to the coast and the east in the afternoon and mostly clearing. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh westerly winds, strong at times on the coast.Monday 27 AugustEarly frost over the northeast. Isolated afternoon showers possible over the southwest. Remaining dry elsewhere. A milder, partly cloudy day with freshening north to northwesterly winds.Tuesday 28 AugustIsolated showers over the west extending to the east by late in the day and becoming more widespread over the southwest.
