MELBOURNE - Aug 24/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A deep, complex low pressure system south of Tasmania is moving south and an associated trough over the western Tasman Sea weakening as a high pressure system north of the Bight extends a ridge to northeastern New South Wales. Over the next few days the high will move slowly east strengthening the ridge across the state while a series of cold fronts pass to the south. The ridge will weaken during Monday and Tuesday as the high move across the Tasman Sea towards New Zealand and another cold front approaches the western border of the state. Forecast for the rest of FridayIsolated showers across the southern inland, tending scattered about the western slopes of the southern ranges and falling as snow above about 800 metres at first. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Westerly winds extending throughout, strong and gusty in the southeast.Saturday 25 AugustIsolated showers over the western slopes of the southern ranges, mainly about Alpine areas, falling as snow above 1100 metres. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Early frost inland. West to southwesterly winds, turning southeasterly on the northern coast.Sunday 26 AugustIsolated clearing showers on the western slopes of the southern ranges. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Early frost inland. South to southwesterly winds, turning southeasterly on the northern coast.Monday 27 AugustMostly sunny. Early frost inland.
