MELBOURNE - Aug 24/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A deep low pressure system west of Tasmania will move east to reach Tasmania today. The low will then move across southern Tasmania this afternoon before it moves southeastwards, resulting in a cold, vigorous and unstable westerly airstream over Victoria. A cold front embedded in this airstream will cross southern Victoria on Saturday night, reaching the Tasman Sea by early Sunday. A weak high pressure system will then move across southern NSW late Sunday and early Monday. Forecast for the rest of FridayScattered showers, isolated over the northwest but remaining dry over the far southeast. Small hail possible with showers. Rain areas over the northeast ranges. Isolated thunderstorms in the far east during the morning and near the coast. Showers falling as snow above 800 metres, rising to 1000 metres by the end of the day. Cool to cold with fresh to strong and squally west to northwesterly winds.Saturday 25 AugustScattered showers over the southwest, central coast and about the northeast ranges. Isolated showers over most remaining districts. Generally cool with fresh northwesterly winds, stronger about the west and central coast.Sunday 26 AugustScattered showers in the southwest and about the eastern ranges and isolated showers elsewhere. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh westerly winds, strong at times on the coast.Monday 27 AugustIsolated showers over the southwest and possibly about the ranges. Remaining dry elsewhere.
