Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 24/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A low pressure trough and associated cold front are moving from eastern New South Wales to the Tasman Sea this morning. A deep low near Tasmania will continue to drive a vigorous westerly airstream across New South Wales today, while a high over central Australia extends a ridge across the state's north. Later today the low will move away to the southeast, allowing the ridge to strengthen over the region during the weekend. The high is expected to drift slowly east during the following few days while a series of cold fronts pass to the south.
Forecast for the rest of FridayEarly showers and thunderstorms in the northeast, clearing. Isolated showers across the southern inland, tending scattered about the western slopes of the southern ranges and falling as snow above about 800 metres at first. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Westerly winds extending throughout, strong and gusty across southern and central districts.Saturday 25 AugustIsolated showers over the western slopes of the southern ranges, mainly about Alpine areas, falling as snow above 1100 metres. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. West to southwesterly winds, turning southeasterly on the northern coast.Sunday 26 AugustIsolated clearing showers on the western slopes of the southern ranges. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. South to southwesterly winds, turning southeasterly on the northern coast.Monday 27 AugustEarly fog and frost patches about the tablelands. Fine and mostly sunny day.
