MELBOURNE - Aug 23/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A fire weather warning is current for the Maranoa and Warrego district. A strong wind warning has been issued for coastal waters south of Cape Moreton, excluding Moreton Bay. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A trough is moving across western Queensland at present and is expected to reach eastern districts on Friday. A ridge of higher pressure is weakening on the east coast. Forecast for the rest of Thursday A band of showers and thunderstorms over the southern interior this afternoon will move into the western Darling Downs this evening associated with a SW'ly wind change. Very isolated showers generally over the eastern interior further north. Isolated showers generally about the northeast tropical coast. Sea fog about the central coast. Becoming Drier and cooler in the west with moderate S to SW winds. Moderate to fresh and gusty NW winds ahead of the change over southern districts. Generally moderate E to SE winds over the tropics. High to very high fire danger over the southeastern region generally, severe fire weather conditions over the southern interior. Forecast for Friday The surface trough moves through eastern districts with showers and thunderstorms developing in a band from the central interior to the southeast. A some patchy rain with local thunder the southeast early. Extensive early fog about central coast districts. Isolated afternoon showers generally over eastern inland districts near the central coast. Dry o very the interior with light to moderate SE to SW winds. Moderate to fresh NW winds ahead of the change about the southeast coast. Moderate SE winds over the tropics. A moderate to high fire danger over the southeast region. Forecast for Saturday The trough stalls on the central coast with persistent showers. Isolated showers generally about the east coast further north and extending over eastern inland districts in the afternoon. Dry over the remainder of the state, fine over the southeast region. Possible early frost over the southeast interior. Forecast for Sunday A high pressure system moves into South Australia, with light winds through the southern parts of the state. A new upper level trough develops over western Queensland, but dry surface conditions inland will keep this area fine. Isolated showers about the northeast tropics, and afternoon showers generally over eastern inland districts. Possible thunderstorms developing overnight inland from Mackay. No change over the interior and in the southeast. Forecast for Monday Upper level trough moves over the southeast region then clears the coast overnight. This will increase the instability leading to showers and thunderstorms through the Capricorn and Wide Bay districts. Isolated showers generally over eastern districts. Possible showers in the southeast. Dry over the remainder of the interior. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday Ridge of higher pressure persists over eastern Queensland with northerly winds developing over the interior again with increasing temperatures. Showers decreasing about the east coast and contracting to the northeast tropics. A new trough will move into western Queensland on Thursday and move into eastern Queensland with showers and thunderstorms over the southern interior. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Friday.
