MELBOURNE - Aug 23/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system near New Zealand is slowly moving to the southeast and a ridge over far northeastern New South Wales is weakening while a cold front with an associated deep low to the southeast of Tasmania is moving through the western parts. During Friday the low will move rapidly to the south as another high moves toward the Bight extending a ridge to the northeast of the state. Over the next few days, this high is expected to move slowly east strengthening the ridge across state while a series of cold front move to the south. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayIsolated showers and thunderstorms in the west, possibly extending to the coast. Showers tending scattered on the western slopes of the ranges but clearing from the far west. Snow developing on the higher Alps. Warm, gusty northerly winds turning cooler westerly in the west and southeast.Friday 24 AugustIsolated showers in the southeastern inland falling as snow above about 800 metres at first and isolated clearing showers and thunderstorms in the far northeast. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Cooler westerly wind extending throughout.Saturday 25 AugustIsolated showers over the western slopes of the southern ranges, mainly about Alpine areas, falling as snow above 1100 metres. Mostly sunny elsewhere. West to southwesterly winds, turning southeasterly on the northern coast.Sunday 26 AugustIsolated clearing showers on the western slopes of the southern ranges. Mostly sunny elsewhere. South to southwesterly winds, turning southeasterly on the northern coast.Monday 27 AugustMostly sunny throughout.
