Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 23/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A fire weather warning is current for the Maranoa and Warrego
district.

Weather Situation
A cold front is moving through southeastern Australia, with a trough
extending into southwest Queensland. The trough will move towards the east
during today, and off the southeast coast late on Friday. A high over the
southern Tasman Sea extends a ridge into eastern Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
A band of cloud with patchy light rain and isolated thunderstorms over the
southwest of the state, extending east into the southern and central interior
during the afternoon with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. Isolated
showers along the northeast coast. Afternoon showers developing in remaining
eastern districts. Early morning fog over eastern districts, chiefly in the
south. Dry and cooler in the west with moderate S'ly winds. Fresh and gusty NW
winds ahead of the surface trough with a severe fire danger for the southern
interior. Lighter winds about the central east coast and moderate E to SE winds
across the tropics.
Forecast for Friday
The surface trough moves through eastern districts, with showers and
thunderstorms developing in a band from the central interior to the southeast.
Early morning rain and possible thunderstorms in the southeast interior.
Isolated showers persisting in the northeast and about the central coast. Early
morning fog over central and southeast parts. Dry and cooler over the interior
with S'ly winds. Very warm day time temperatures over eastern districts ahead of
the surface trough.
Forecast for Saturday
The trough stalls on the central coast with some remaining showers and
thunderstorms. Isolated showers continuing in the northeast tropics, and
developing over adjacent inland parts in the afternoon. Dry over the interior,
some possible early frost over the southeastern interior. Cooler in the
southeast with SW to SE winds.
Forecast for Sunday
A high pressure system moves into South Australia, with light winds through
the southern parts of the state. A new mid level trough develops over western
Queensland, but dry surface conditions inland will keep this area fine. Isolated
showers about the northeast tropics, and afternoon showers developing over
inland parts of the tropical east and north. Some possible early frost over the
southeastern interior.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
The high pressure system moves into New South Wales on Monday then clears off
the east coast on Tuesday. The upper level trough moves east during Monday and
off the coast late, leading to isolated afternoon showers and possible storms
over eastern districts. More stable conditions about the state from Tuesday,
with only isolated showers for parts of the east coast.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Thursday.
