Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 22/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Fire Weather Warning has is current for the Channel Country
for Wednesday.
A fire weather warning has been issued for the Warrego and Maranoa districts for
Thursday.

Weather Situation
A cold front is moving through the Great Australia Bight at present with a
trough approaching Queensland. A high over the southern Tasman Sea extends a
ridge into eastern Queensland. The trough is expected to move through western
Queensland on Thursday and reach the southeast on Friday.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Very isolated showers over eastern districts with possible isolated
thunderstorms over the southern Darling Downs this evening. Isolated showers in
the northeast tropics with possible isolated late thunderstorms near Weipa. Dry
over the remainder of the state. Moderate SE winds over the tropics, light to
moderate E to SE winds about the east coast. Moderate NE to N'ly winds over the
interior, fresh and gusty NW winds in western districts. A high fire danger over
the southern interior, increasing to severe in the Channel Country.
Forecast for Thursday
The surface trough will move through western districts with patchy rain and
isolated thunderstorms in the southwest at first, then increase to a band of
showers and thunderstorms generally over the southern interior in the afternoon.
Isolated showers generally over eastern districts with possible early drizzle.
Thunderstorms activity decreasing on the west coast of Cape York Peninsular. Dry
and cooler over the west with moderate S'ly winds. Fresh and gusty NW winds
ahead of the change with a severe fire danger for the southern interior. Lighter
winds about the central east coast and moderate E to SE winds across the
tropics. A moderate to high fire danger generally over the southeast and
Capricorn district. High to very high over the Darling Downs district.
Forecast for Friday
The trough eventually moves through the southeast district and the central
interior. Showers and thunderstorms in a band from the central interior to the
southeast. Isolated showers persisting in the northeast and about the central
coast. Dry and cooler over the interior with S'ly winds. Very warm day time
temperatures over eastern districts ahead of the change.
Forecast for Saturday
The trough stalls on the central coast with some remaining showers and
thunderstorms. Isolated showers continuing  in the northeast tropics. Dry over
the interior, some possible early frost over the southern interior near Roma and
Stanthorpe. Cooler for the southeast region with SW to SE winds.
Forecast for Sunday
A new mid level trough develops over western Queensland and this will
increase the instability over the state. This will expand the thunderstorm area
on the central coast and afternoon showers over eastern districts generally. No
change for the remainder of the state.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
The next high moves into New South Wales on Monday then clears off the east
coast on Tuesday. An upper level trough has also moved off the coast by Monday
and the result will be dry conditions persisting over most of Queensland.
Showers persisting about the central coast and the northeast tropics.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Thursday.
