Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 22/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Fire Weather Warning has been issued for the Channel
Country for Wednesday.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system over the northern Tasman Sea will remain slow moving,
maintaining dry winds over southern Queensland. A surface trough will move into
southwestern Queensland early Thursday as an upper trough builds over central
Australia.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Isolated showers about the tropical east coast, tending to drizzle about the
North Tropical Coast in the morning. Early light rain areas over the southeast
interior, with isolated showers and possible thunderstorms developing in the
afternoon. Isolated afternoon showers in the southeast. Isolated afternoon
showers and possible thunderstorms over remaining eastern districts. Light to
moderate SE to NE in the tropics, fresh at times along the far northern coast.
Mostly moderate NE to NW winds in southern districts, fresh and gusty in the
southwest. A severe fire danger in the Channel Country, very high in the Maranoa
and Warrego.
Forecast for Thursday
The surface trough will move east over southern Queensland, extending from
the Gulf Country to the southern interior by evening. The trough is expected to
produce a band of showers and thunderstorms with its passage over southern
Queensland. Isolated showers about eastern districts with morning drizzle north
of about Fraser Island. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms about
remaining central and northern districts and fine in the northwest. Very warm to
hot maximum temperatures over much of the state, with fire dangers increasing
through the southern interior in a fresh and gusty N'ly wind flow.
Forecast for Friday
The trough will move over eastern interior before becoming slow moving. A
corresponding band of showers and thunderstorms is expected in eastern
districts, tending to showers in the tropics. Fine and dry conditions in the
west. Very warm maximum temperatures over the southeast with fire dangers
increasing slightly in the southeast corner.
Forecast for Saturday
The trough will move further northwards while the upper trough will weaken as
it moves offshore. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms over the central
east coast. Isolated showers elsewhere in the eastern interior, while onshore
winds will produce isolated showers along the tropical coast. Remaining dry with
SW to S'ly winds in the west of the state. Isolated early frosts over the
southeast interior.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
A new upper trough will develop over southern Queensland during Sunday and
move offshore on Monday. Isolated showers about the tropics and eastern
districts. Isolated thunderstorms about the central east coast on Sunday before
conditions stabilise. Dry surface conditions over the interior will keep the
remainder of the state fine. Isolated morning frosts remaining about the
southeast interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Wednesday.
