Australia -- South Australia Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 22/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A low pressure system south of Mount Gambier is moving slowly southeastwards and weakening. A front will move over the State today, followed by an intense low pressure system moving eastwards south of the State during Thursday to be near Tasmania on Friday. A high pressure ridge will then develop over the northwest of South Australia on Friday and another front will move over the southeast on Saturday.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayIsolated showers extending over the West Coast district, the agricultural area and south of the pastoral districts, tending scattered over the southern agricultural area. The chance of isolated gusty thunderstorms over the West Coast district, Eyre Peninsula, the northern agricultural area and south of the pastoral districts. Early fog patches, mainly in the east. Cool to mild in the south grading to warm to hot in the far north. Freshening northerly winds, ahead of a fresh westerly change extending from the west, strong at times in west and far north.Thursday 23 AugustScattered showers and possible small hail over Eyre Peninsula and the remainder of the agricultural area. Isolated showers over the remainder, apart from the far north. Isolated thunderstorms over the agricultural area. Local heavy falls possible about the southern Mount Lofty Ranges. Cold in the south grading to mild in the north, with fresh to strong and gusty northwest to southwesterly winds.Friday 24 AugustIsolated showers over the agricultural area and the south of the pastoral districts, scattered over the southern agricultural area in the morning. Possible early thunderstorms in the Lower South East. Cold in the south grading to mild in the north with fresh to strong northwest to westerly winds, moderating and turning southwesterly from the west.Saturday 25 AugustIsolated showers near southern coasts, extending over the southern agricultural area during the day. Cool to cold in the south grading to mild in the north with light winds, becoming moderate to fresh northwest to southwesterly over the agricultural area. Cumulative rainfall totals from Wednesday morning until midnight Saturday are forecast to be 10 to 20 mm over the southern agricultural area, reaching 20 to 40 mm over southern coasts, with possible falls of 30 to 50 mm over the southern Mount Lofty ranges. 2 to 10 mm is expected over the northern agricultural area and less than 2 mm over the south of the pastoral districts.Sunday until TuesdayIsolated showers over the southern agricultural area, contracting to southern coasts on Monday, then developing over the agricultural area on Tuesday. Cool to mild, grading to mild to warm in the north and west with mainly light to moderate northwest to southwesterly winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm CST Wednesday.Product IDS10033
