Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 21/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Fire Weather Warning has been issued for the Channel
Country for Wednesday.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high pressure system over the northern Tasman Sea will remain slow moving,
maintaining dry winds over southern Queensland. A surface trough will move into
southwestern Queensland during Wednesday as an upper trough builds over central
Australia.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Isolated showers about the tropics and into the central interior, with
isolated thunderstorms possible about western Cape York Peninsula. Fine
elsewhere, with cloudy conditions in the south. Moderate to fresh SE winds in
the tropics, light to moderate NE to NW elsewhere. A very high fire danger in
the Channel Country.
Forecast for Wednesday
Isolated showers about the tropical east coast, tending to drizzle about the
North Tropical Coast in the morning. Early light rain areas over the southeast
interior, with isolated showers and possible thunderstorms developing in the
afternoon. Isolated showers in remaining eastern districts developing during the
afternoon, with isolated thunderstorms over the western Peninsula. Light to
moderate SE to NE in the tropics, fresh at times along the far northern coast.
Mostly moderate NE to NW winds in southern districts, fresh and gusty in the
southwest. A severe fire danger in the Channel Country.
Forecast for Thursday
The surface trough will move east over western Queensland, extending from the
Gulf Country to the southeast interior by evening. The trough is expected to
produce a band of showers and thunderstorms with its passage, extending from the
Gulf Country though the southern tropics and central districts and into the
southern interior. An upper level trough will generate patchy light rain and
possible isolated storms in the southwest of the state, gradually clearing to
the east. Only isolated showers about coastal districts in a more stable airmass
away from the trough. Very warm to hot maximum temperatures will occur over much
of the state, with fire dangers increasing through the southern interior in a
fresh and gusty N'ly wind flow.
Forecast for Friday
The trough will move through eastern Queensland during the day and off the
east coast at night. A corresponding band of showers and thunderstorms will move
through the eastern interior and contract to the coast in the evening. Fine and
dry conditions in the west. Very warm to hot maximum temperatures over the
southeast, with fire dangers increasing slightly in the southeast corner.
Forecast for Saturday
The trough will move further northwards while the upper trough will weaken as
it moves offshore. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms are expected over
the central parts of the state, clearing to the east. Isolated afternoon showers
elsewhere in the tropical interior, while onshore winds will produce isolated
showers along the tropical coast. Drier SW to S'ly winds in the west of the
state and remaining fine, with early morning frost over the southern
interior.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
A new upper trough will likely develop over western Queensland during Sunday,
and continue moving east early next week. But dry surface conditions over the
interior will keep most of the state fine. Isolated showers expected to continue
through most eastern districts, especially in the tropics. A high pressure
system will move through northern NSW with light winds through southern
Queensland.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Wednesday.
