Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 21/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A weakening cold front over the State will slide away to the southeast overnight. A stronger cold front will cross the Bight to reach western Victoria Wednesday night then extend to eastern Victoria on Thursday morning. Another cold front will move across Bass Strait early Friday, while an associated low pressure system will pass to the south of Victoria. The low will move rapidly away to the southeast on Saturday, but another front will approach western Victoria late in the day.
Forecast for the rest of TuesdayIsolated showers mainly over western and central districts. Remaining fine in the far east. Generally moderate to fresh north to northwesterly winds.Wednesday 22 AugustScattered showers over the northeast ranges and developing along the rest of the dividing range later in the day. Isolated showers elsewhere, mainly early morning then again late in the day. A generally mild day with moderate to fresh northerly winds.Thursday 23 AugustShowers, most extensive in the west and along the northern slopes of the dividing range, and tending to rain areas about the northeast ranges. The chance of hail and thunder over western and central districts during the afternoon. Snowfalls lowering to 1000 metres by Thursday night. Mostly dry over East Gippsland. Cool to cold and cloudy with moderate to fresh northwest to westerly winds.Friday 24 AugustScattered showers over the southwest and about the ranges, with isolated showers over most remaining areas. Isolated hail and thunder, mainly near the coast. Showers falling as snow above 800 metres, rising to 1000 metres by the end of the day. Cool to cold with fresh to strong and squally west to northwesterly winds.Saturday 25 AugustScattered showers over the southwest. Isolated showers over most remaining districts, but dry over East Gippsland. Generally cool with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EST Wednesday.Product IDV10310
