MELBOURNE - Aug 19/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system over the central Tasman is moving away. A high pressure system near Adelaide will move rapidly eastwards across New South Wales tonight then over the northern Tasman Sea on Monday. A weakening cold front will slide southeastwards across western and central Victoria on Tuesday afternoon. A stronger cold front will cross the Bight to reach western Victoria about midnight Wednesday then extend to eastern Victoria on Thursday morning. Forecast for the rest of SundayIsolated showers in the west and about the central coast, mostly clearing. Fine elsewhere but mainly cloudy. Light west to northwest wind.Monday 20 AugustEarly morning fog patches in the north and east and a few frosts in the northeast. A mainly fine but generally cloudy day although the chance of afternoon showers in the west and central districts, mostly on the ranges. Cool with light to moderate northerly winds.Tuesday 21 AugustScattered showers developing in the southwest during the morning then becoming more isolated as they extend to central and northwestern areas later in the day and evening. Remaining fine in the far east. A cool to mild and partly cloudy day with northerly winds, fresh to strong in the southwest and central districts, shifting northwest to westerly and easing later in the afternoon and evening.Wednesday 22 AugustIsolated showers in the southwest and the northeast but generally fine elsewhere. A cool to mild and mostly cloudy day with moderate northerly winds, freshening later.Thursday 23 AugustShowers, most extensive in the west and along the northern slopes of the dividing range. The chance of hail and thunder in the west later. Snowfalls lowering to 1000 metres.
