MELBOURNE - Aug 18/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A surface trough lies over Capricorn and Central Coast waters. A high
pressure system in the Great Australian Bight will move eastwards across
southeastern Australia over the weekend, extending a cool, dry wind flow over
much of Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Isolated light showers over northern parts of the Peninsula district. Fine
and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state. A cool day over western and
southern districts. Light to moderate SE winds over the tropics, fresh at times
near the coast. Moderate to fresh and dry S to SW winds elsewhere, gusty at
times over southeast districts. A Very High fire danger over the Darling Downs
and Granite Belt, Southeast Coast, Wide Bay and Burnett and Capricornia
districts.
Forecast for Sunday
A weak upper trough will move east across the state, leading to increasing
cloud with some patchy light rain developing northeast of about St. Lawrence to
Normanton. High cloud over remaining eastern districts though remaining fine as
the high pressure system moves into New South Wales and extends a dry airmass
into southern and western Queensland. Widespread early frosts are likely through
the southern, central and southeast interior.
Forecast for Monday
The upper trough will move eastwards into the Coral Sea with cloud and patchy
rain clearing away from the central coast and northeast tropics during the
morning. The high will contract east into the Tasman Sea late in the day,
directing moist SE winds and isolated light showers onto the northeast tropical
coast. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder apart from some high cloud
extending through southern districts. Widespread early frosts likely through the
southern, central and southeast interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
A trough will move east over central Australia and approach the western
Queensland border bringing high cloud with little or no rain to southern
districts. Winds will tend N'ly over the interior ahead of the trough, resulting
in warm maximum temperatures in the south and west away from cloud. Early frost
areas will contract to the Granite Belt. Isolated showers will persist about the
northeast and central coasts, developing about the remaining northern and
central interior during the afternoon. Possible isolated afternoon thunderstorms
over the Peninsula district. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will persist in
the far west and over the southeast.
Forecast for Wednesday
A surface and upper trough remain over South Australia while a ridge remains
over eastern Queensland directing moist NE winds over much of the interior.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms over central and eastern districts, easing to
just showers about the northeast tropical coast and southeast coast. Fine in the
far west.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
A trough will move east over southern Queensland on Thursday, clearing the
east coast on Friday and generating isolated showers and possible thunderstorms
with its passage. Temperatures will be well above average over much of the state
in the N'ly wind flow ahead of the trough. A moist and unstable wind flow will
maintain scattered showers along the east tropical coast, with more isolated
shower activity and possible thunderstorms elsewhere over the tropics.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Sunday.
