MELBOURNE - Aug 17/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system is located over eastern Bass Strait. This low will move eastwards over the Tasman Sea later today as a high pressure system crosses the head of the Bight. The high will move across Victoria later Sunday to reach the Tasman Sea on Monday. A cold front will approach the western border late Monday then slide southeastwards across southwestern Victoria on Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayRain areas across central and eastern areas, contracting to the far east during the afternoon. Local heavy falls possible over Gippsland. Isolated showers persisting on and south of the ranges, but fine in the northwest. Snowfalls above 1100 metres. A cool to cold day with moderate to fresh southwest to southerly winds, strong and squally at first about the Gippsland coast.Sunday 19 AugustMorning fog and frost patches over the inland. Scattered showers over East Gippsland, easing and clearing by the evening. Isolated showers clearing elsewhere in the south, mainly over the far southwest. Dry over the north. A cool to mild day with generally light winds.Monday 20 AugustWidespread early morning frost and fog patches. Otherwise a fine, mild and partly cloudy day with with light to moderate northerly winds.Tuesday 21 AugustIsolated showers in the southwest, extending to southern central areas and along the ranges during the afternoon. Morning fog patches in the east.
