MELBOURNE - Aug 16/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front over eastern Victoria is moving steadily eastwards. An associated low pressure system centred near southwest Victoria this morning will move towards northeastern Victoria late today before weakening. Another low is expected to develop east of Bass Strait tonight. This low will move eastwards over the Tasman Sea later Saturday as a high pressure system crosses the head of the Bight. The high will move across Victoria later Sunday and reach the Tasman Sea on Monday as another cold front moves across the Bight. Forecast for the rest of FridayAreas of rain affecting most districts but tending to scattered showers over the northwest. Isolated hail and thunderstorms. Snowfalls above 1000 metres. A cold day with moderate to fresh north to northwesterly winds turning southwesterly across western and central districts and becoming strong and squally over the west.Saturday 18 AugustRain areas in the south contracting to the far east in the afternoon. Isolated showers to follow near and south of the ranges, extending to the northwest in the afternoon. Snowfalls above 1000 metres. A cool to cold day with moderate to fresh southwest to southerly winds.Sunday 19 AugustIsolated showers in the south, mainly over the far east and the far southwest. Dry over the north apart from the chance of an afternoon shower over the Wimmera and southern Mallee. A cool to mild day with generally light winds.Monday 20 AugustEarly frost and fog patches over the east. Isolated showers developing over western districts in the afternoon.
