Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 16/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Fire Weather Warning has been issued for the Maranoa and
Warrego, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and inland parts of the Southeast Coast
district for Friday.

Weather Situation
A weak high lies over the southern Coral Sea whilst a weak surface trough
lies through central Queensland. A more significant surface trough will move
eastwards across Queensland during Friday and contract off the southeast coast
during the early hours of Saturday.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Fine and clear over most of the state with only isolated showers in the
northeast. Light to moderate E to SE winds across the tropics. Moderate to fresh
NW to SW winds over the southern interior. Light to moderate NE to NW winds
about the central and southeast coasts.
Forecast for Friday
The W to NW winds will strengthen through southern parts of the state ahead
of the approaching trough, combining with the warm, dry airmass to increase fire
dangers. Fire dangers will increase to Severe over the Darling Downs and Granite
Belt, Maranoa and Warrego districts and inland parts of the Southeast Coast
district and a Fire Weather Warning has been issued for those areas. Fine and
mostly sunny across most of the state with only isolated showers over the
northeast tropical coast. A cooler SW'ly wind change will extend over western
parts of the state in the wake of the trough. Early frost patches should be
confined to elevated ground over the southeastern interior.
Forecast for Saturday
The trough will contract off the southern and central coasts in the early
hours of the morning. A high pressure system moving east over the Great
Australian Bight will extend a cool, dry S to SW wind flow into Queensland in
the wake of the trough. Widespread early frosts are likely through the southern,
central and southeast interior. Isolated light showers will persist over far
northeastern parts of the Peninsula district. Some high cloud will develop
through western districts ahead of an upper level trough though with no rain.
Fine and sunny conditions will occur elsewhere.
Forecast for Sunday
A weak upper trough is likely to move across the state, leading to increasing
cloud with afternoon showers and some evening patchy light rain developing
northeast of about St. Lawrence to Normanton. The high pressure system should
move eastwards into New South Wales and maintain fine and mostly sunny
conditions over the remainder of the state. Widespread early frosts are likely
through the southern, central and southeast interior.
Forecast for Monday
The upper trough should move eastwards into the Coral Sea with the cloud and
patchy rain clearing away from the central coast and northeast tropics during
the early morning. The high should contract into Coral Sea by late in the day
directing moist SE winds and isolated light showers onto the northeast tropical
coast. The remainder of the state should be fine and mostly sunny. Widespread
early frost are likely through the southern, central and southeast interior.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
The high pressure system will continue to move eastwards across the Tasman
Sea during the outlook period. Most of the state will remain fine, although the
onshore flow is likely to produce isolated showers about the east coast
districts. A weak trough may bring isolated showers and possible thunderstorms
to parts of the central and southern interior during the outlook period.
