MELBOURNE - Aug 16/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A strong cold front will continue over eastern districts overnight, then move east of the State on Friday. A high pressure system will develop over the Bight on Saturday then move slowly east to be over eastern states by Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayScattered showers over the agricultural area, with isolated showers extending to about Leigh Creek. Widespread showers about the ranges and parts of the South East this evening. Possible thunderstorms south of about Renmark to Clare. Possible small hail during the evening over Kangaroo Island and southern parts of the peninsulas. Cool with fresh to strong southwesterly winds, possibly reaching gale force at times about western and central coasts, extending throughout.Friday 17 AugustWidespread showers, possible small hail and thunderstorms over the agricultural area contracting south and easing to isolated showers during the day. Isolated showers over the remaining agricultural areas and southern parts of the pastoral districts, mostly clearing by evening. Light morning frost in the far northwest. Cool with moderate to fresh southwest winds, strong to gale force about the southern and central coasts at first.Saturday 18 AugustIsolated showers about the southern and central coastal districts, with possible showers over the remainder of the agricultural area. Morning frost over parts of the Pastoral districts. Cool to mild with light to moderate southerly winds.Sunday 19 AugustIsolated showers over southern coasts easing and clearing later in the day. Possible isolated showers over the remainder of the southern agricultural area clearing during the day. Morning frosts well inland. Cool to mild with light southeast to northeast winds, tending moderate west to northwesterly about the coasts.Monday 20 August Possible light morning frost, then a fine day with high cloud increasing in the west. Cool to mild with light winds becoming moderate northerly in the west later in the day. Cumulative rainfall totals from Thursday afternoon until midnight Monday are expected to be highly variable and mostly occurring overnight Thursday and on Friday. 5 to 20 mm is expected over agricultural areas increasing to 20 to 40 mm on the Mount Lofty Ranges and the South East. Less than 5 mm for southern pastoral areas. Isolated falls about the Mount Lofty Ranges could total 40 to 60 mm during this period. Tuesday until ThursdayMild with freshening northerly winds on Tuesday ahead of a cooler change moving across the State mid-week.
