Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 15/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A band of high pressure is located across NSW and to the north, with a front passing to the south. Late Thursday and through Friday a stronger frontal system will move through the state, before moving out into the Tasman Sea over the weekend. This system will bring windy conditions and showers to many districts at the end of the week, with snow developing in areas above about 800 metres. Conditions should ease over the weekend as this system moves away and the next high extends a ridge across New South Wales.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayIsolated showers over the southern slopes and ranges and the Riverina, becoming more widespread during the day and falling as snow down to about 1200 metres. The chance of a few showers developing on the central ranges and southern coast during the afternoon. Rain developing in the southwest of the state during the late afternoon or evening. Fine and partly cloudy elsewhere. West to northwest winds, gusty over the ranges.Friday 17 AugustRain and isolated thunderstorms extending eastwards across the south of the state during the morning and falling as snow above 900 metres on the ranges. Rain easing to showers from the west. Fine and partly cloudy across the north. Cool and gusty southwest to northwesterly winds.Saturday 18 AugustIsolated showers in the southeast, tending scattered over the western slopes of the southern and central ranges. Fine and partly cloudy elsewhere. Cool and gusty west to southwesterly winds.Sunday 19 AugustFine and sunny over most of the state. The chance of a shower or two along the central and southern coasts. Light winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Thursday.Product IDN10031
