MELBOURNE - Aug 15/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A strong cold front will extend from the west today then move east of the State on Friday. A high pressure system will develop over the Bight on Saturday then move slowly east. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayScattered showers developing over the agricultural area, with isolated showers extending to about Leigh Creek. Showers becoming widespread about the ranges and parts of the South East during the afternoon and evening. Possible thunderstorms developing south of about Renmark to Clare with possible small hail during the evening over Kangaroo Island and the far south of the peninsulas. Cool with fresh to strong northwest to southwesterly winds possibly reaching gale force at times about western and central coasts.Friday 17 AugustScattered showers with possible small hail over the southern agricultural area contracting south and easing to isolated showers during the day. Isolated showers over the remaining agricultural areas and southern parts of the pastoral districts, mostly clearing by evening. Possible morning thunderstorms over the Lower South East. Cool with moderate to fresh southwest winds, strong about the coasts at first.Saturday 18 AugustIsolated showers about the southern agricultural area with possible showers over the remainder of the agricultural area contracting to southern coastal areas by evening. Cool to mild with light to moderate southerly winds.Sunday 19 AugustIsolated showers over southern coasts with possible showers over the remainder of the southern agricultural area. Cool to mild with light to moderate southeast to northeast winds.to northwesterly winds freshening in the west on Tuesday ahead of a westerly change. Cumulative rainfall totals from Thursday until midnight Sunday are expected to be 20 to 40 mm on the Mount Lofty Ranges and Lower South East, 10 to 20 mm about the Flinders Ranges and southern coasts. 5 to 15 mm over the remainder of the agricultural area and up to 5 mm over the south of the pastoral districts. Isolated falls of 30 to 40 mm are possible about the South East Coast.Monday until WednesdayPossible isolated showers over the southern coastal areas extending over the southern agricultural area on Tuesday and extending to the West Coast on Wednesday.
