MELBOURNE - Aug 15/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front crossing southern Victoria and Bass Strait will clear eastwards overnight. A stronger front will reach western Victoria late Thursday with an associated low expected to form over Bass Strait as it moves eastwards during Friday. A cold southerly airflow will extend across the State late on Friday with the low pressure system moving east of Bass Strait then out over the Tasman Sea on Saturday. The next high pressure system will move into the Bight on Saturday and across Victoria later Sunday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayScattered showers mainly over southern and mountain districts, mostly clearing tonight. Showers falling as snow above 1300 metres. Moderate to locally fresh northwest to westerly winds.Thursday 16 AugustEarly frost and fog patches inland. Isolated showers developing over most districts during the day, tending scattered about the ranges and falling as snow above 1100 metres. The chance of afternoon thunderstorms over the west. A band of rain entering from the western border at night. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds.Friday 17 AugustRain areas extending to most districts, but only isolated showers over the far northwest. Isolated hail and thunder possible. Snowfalls above 1000 metres. A cold day with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds extending from the west.Saturday 18 AugustRain areas contracting southeastwards. Scattered showers to follow, but tending isolated from the west. Snowfalls above 1000 metres. A cool to cold day with moderate to fresh southwest to southerly winds.Sunday 19 AugustIsolated showers in the south contracting to the coast. Dry over the north.
