MELBOURNE - Aug 14/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation Another cold front will cross southern Victoria and Bass Strait from the west on Wednesday, weakening as it reaches eastern areas in the evening. A stronger front will reach western Victoria late Thursday with an associated low expected to form over Bass Strait as it moves eastwards during Friday. A cold southerly airflow will extend across the State late on Friday with the low pressure system moving east of Bass Strait then out over the Tasman Sea on Saturday. The next high pressure system will move into the Bight on Saturday, extending a ridge across Victoria. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayMorning frost and fog patches in the north and east. Scattered showers developing over the southwest in the morning then extending to most southern and mountain districts in the afternoon. Only isolated showers over the northern plains and mostly dry in East Gippsland. Snowfalls developing above 1300 metres. A cool day with moderate to fresh northwest to westerly winds.Thursday 16 AugustIsolated showers mainly in the southwest and about the ranges, tending to rain areas in the west later in the afternoon. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds. A cold southwest change reaching the far west at night.Friday 17 AugustRain areas over most districts. Isolated thunderstorms mainly about the ranges. Snow above 800 metres. Cold day with moderate to fresh northwest to southwesterly winds.Saturday 18 AugustScattered showers in the east, tending more isolated in the west and falling as snow above 1000 metres.
