Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 14/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A series of cold fronts will affect Victoria this week with the first expected to weaken as it crosses eastern Victoria late today. The next front on Wednesday is also forecast to weaken as it crosses the State, however a stronger front will reach western Victoria late Thursday with an associated low expected to form near Tasmania Thursday night. A cold southwesterly airflow will extend across the State on Friday with the associated low pressure system moving east of Bass Strait. The next high pressure system will move into the Bight on Saturday, extending a ridge across Victoria.
Forecast for the rest of TuesdayScattered showers extending to the east but becoming isolated in the west. Remaining mostly dry over East Gippsland. Showers falling as snow above 1400 metres. Moderate west to southwesterly winds extending throughout.Wednesday 15 AugustIsolated showers developing over southern and mountain districts, scattered over the far southwest. Showers falling as snow above 1300 metres. A cool to mild day with moderate to fresh northwest to westerly winds.Thursday 16 AugustIsolated showers mainly in the south, tending to rain areas in the west in the morning. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds. A southwest change reaching the far west at night.Friday 17 AugustRain areas over most districts. Isolated thunderstorms mainly about the ranges. Snow above 800 metres. Cold day with moderate to fresh northwest to southwesterly winds.Saturday 18 AugustScattered showers in the east, tending more isolated in the west and falling as snow above 1000 metres. Cool to cold day with moderate to fresh southwest to southerly winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EST Wednesday.Product IDV10310
