Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 13/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over New South Wales is moving northeast in Queensland and weakening.
A cold front is moving through the Bight and is expected to slide southeast
towards Tasmania.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Fine and dry for most parts. Isolated showers about exposed points of the
east coast and developing on the northeast tropical coast. Very warm in the west
in the afternoon with NE winds. Moderate to fresh SE winds across the tropics.
Light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere, tending N to NW in the south.
Forecast for Wednesday
The weak high moves off the coast, warmer NW winds developing over the
interior. The early frost will contract over the southern and southeast
interior. Isolated showers about the northeast tropical coast. A new trough or
SW'ly wind change will enter the Channel Country.
Forecast for Thursday
The trough progresses slowly into central and southern Queensland with
increasing temperatures over eastern districts. Early frost will contract
further to isolated areas of the southeast interior. Cooler in the west with dry
SW winds. Dry again over most of the state apart from isolated showers in the
northeast tropics.
Forecast for Friday
The trough now enters the southeast districts with above average day maxima
and NW winds. NW winds will possibly increase to strong along the SE coast, and
fire dangers are likely to increase. Early frost minimal now, confined to the
Granite Belt. Dry again over most of the state with isolated showers continuing
about the northeast tropical coast.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
After the trough clears the state in the early hours of Saturday, cooler
temperatures will again dominate Queensland. Early frost areas about the
southeast and southern interior. Isolated showers continuing about the northeast
tropics but shifting northwards. An approaching upper trough early next week
will induce a surface trough over the interior and push moisture further inland.
The combination of upper trough lift and lower level moisture may lead to
isolated showers developing over the central interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Tuesday.
