MELBOURNE - Aug 13/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high over New South Wales is moving northeast in Queensland and weakening. A cold front is moving through the Bight and is expected to slide southeast towards Tasmania. Forecast for the rest of Tuesday Fine and dry for most parts. Isolated showers about exposed points of the east coast and developing on the northeast tropical coast. Very warm in the west in the afternoon with NE winds. Moderate to fresh SE winds across the tropics. Light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere, tending N to NW in the south. Forecast for Wednesday The weak high moves off the coast, warmer NW winds developing over the interior. The early frost will contract over the southern and southeast interior. Isolated showers about the northeast tropical coast. A new trough or SW'ly wind change will enter the Channel Country. Forecast for Thursday The trough progresses slowly into central and southern Queensland with increasing temperatures over eastern districts. Early frost will contract further to isolated areas of the southeast interior. Cooler in the west with dry SW winds. Dry again over most of the state apart from isolated showers in the northeast tropics. Forecast for Friday The trough now enters the southeast districts with above average day maxima and NW winds. NW winds will possibly increase to strong along the SE coast, and fire dangers are likely to increase. Early frost minimal now, confined to the Granite Belt. Dry again over most of the state with isolated showers continuing about the northeast tropical coast. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday After the trough clears the state in the early hours of Saturday, cooler temperatures will again dominate Queensland. Early frost areas about the southeast and southern interior. Isolated showers continuing about the northeast tropics but shifting northwards. An approaching upper trough early next week will induce a surface trough over the interior and push moisture further inland. The combination of upper trough lift and lower level moisture may lead to isolated showers developing over the central interior. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Tuesday.
