MELBOURNE - Aug 13/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A series of cold fronts will affect Victoria this week with the first expected to reach far western Victoria this morning. This front will weaken as it crosses eastern Victoria late Tuesday. The next front on Wednesday is also forecast to weaken as it crosses the State, however a stronger front will reach western Victoria late Thursday with an associated low expected to form near Tasmania Thursday night. A cold southwesterly airflow will extend across the State on Friday with the associated low pressure system moving east of Bass Strait. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayScattered showers extending from the west this morning then becoming more isolated as they reach central areas around midday then the east towards evening. Remaining mostly dry over East Gippsland. Showers falling as snow above 1400 metres by the end of the day. Mild and partly cloudy day with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds, shifting west to southwesterly from the west.Wednesday 15 AugustIsolated showers developing over southern and mountain districts, scattered over the far southwest and about the northeast ranges. Showers falling as snow above 1300 metres. A cool to mild day with moderate to fresh northwest to westerly winds.Thursday 16 August Isolated showers mainly over southern and mountain districts, tending to rain areas in the southwest later. Showers falling as snow above 1100 metres. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds. A southwest change reaching the far west at night. Friday 17 AugustRain areas extending eastwards and clearing. Scattered showers with local hail and isolated thunderstorms over most districts.
