Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 13/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Strong Wind Warning has been cancelled for the southeast
coast of Queensland.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over New South Wales is moving northeast in Queensland and weakening.
A cold front is moving through the Bight and is expected to slide southeast
towards Tasmania.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Dry over most of the state, very isolated showers near the central, Wide Bay
and southeast coasts. Moderate to fresh SE winds over the tropics. Light to
moderate SE to NE winds over the interior. Moderate to fresh S to SE winds about
the east coast. A moderate to high fire danger over the southeast, central and
northeast coasts.
Forecast for Tuesday
The weak high moves over southeast QLD creating lighter winds for the state.
Continuing dry over most parts of Queensland, isolated showers about exposed
points of the east coast and developing on the northeast tropical coast.
Extensive early frost over the southern and southeast interior. Very warm in the
west in the afternoon with NE winds. Moderate to fresh SE winds across the
tropics. Light to moderate S to SE winds over the remainder.
Forecast for Wednesday
The weak high moves off the coast, warmer NW winds developing over the
interior. This will contract the early frost over the southern and southeast
interior. Isolated showers now confined to the northeast tropical coast. A new
trough or SW'ly wind change will enter the Channel Country with no weather.
Forecast for Thursday
The trough progresses slowly into central and southern Queensland with rising
temperatures over eastern districts. This will contract early frost to the
Darling Downs district. Cooler in the west with SW winds. Dry again over most of
the state apart from isolated showers in the northeast tropics.
Forecast for Friday
The trough now enters the southeast districts with above average day maxima
and NW winds. Strong NW winds are expected along the SE coast and may lead to a
high fire danger. Early frost minimal now, confined to the Granite Belt and near
Roma. Dry again over most of the state with isolated showers continuing about
the northeast tropical coast.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
After the trough clears the state in the early hours of Saturday, cooler
temperatures will again dominate Queensland, chilly in the south with the early
frost area expanding again. Any showers remaining in the northeast tropics will
be contracting north. By Sunday the winds have eased over most of Queensland
leading to extensive early frost over the interior. Isolated showers
redeveloping in the northeast tropics as the airflow changes from southerly to
southeasterly. By Monday an approaching upper trough will induce a surface
trough over the interior. This surface trough will turn interior winds more
northerly on the east side, allowing for moisture to flood back in. The
combination of upper trough lift and lower level moisture may lead to isolated
showers developing over the central interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Tuesday.
