MELBOURNE - Aug 12/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters between Double Island Point and Point Danger, excluding Moreton Bay. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A large high over southeastern Australia extends a ridge into western Queensland. The high is expected to move slowly east to northeast and weaken over the next few days. A complex low occurs over the eastern Tasman Sea. Forecast for the rest of Monday Dry and cool over most of the state. Isolated showers in the southeast with possible thunderstorms also about Capricorn and Wide Bay coasts. Very isolated showers about eastern inland parts. Early morning frost areas about the southern and central interior, extending into higher parts of the southern tropics. Mostly light to moderate S to SE winds, fresh and gusty in the east. Forecast for Tuesday The high pushes into the southern Coral Sea, extending a weak ridge along the east coast of Queensland. Isolated showers about exposed points of the east coast and redeveloping on the northeast tropical coast. Dry through the interior with extensive early frost over many districts. Maximum temperatures increasing over the southwest as the winds become northerly. Forecast for Wednesday The high weakens further over the southern Coral Sea, reducing winds across the state. Isolated showers along the northeastern coast, mostly about the North Tropical Coast. Dry through the interior with isolated early frost over southern districts. Maximum temperatures increasing over southern and western areas as the winds continue from the north. Forecast for Thursday The next high enters Western Australia and pushes a surface trough east into western Queensland. Isolated showers along the northeastern coast, mostly about the northeast tropical coast. Dry through the interior with a decrease in the frost areas over southeast inland parts of Queensland. Maximum temperatures above average over southern and western areas of the state. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday The surface trough moves off the southern coast on Friday as the next high pushes into the Bight. Possible very isolated afternoon showers in southeast interior with the passage of the trough. Isolated showers about the northeast coast. Fine elsewhere. Warmer temperatures ahead of the inland trough, with frost areas decreasing. A new cooler airmass becomes established with prevailing SW to SE winds behind the trough. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Monday.
