Weather Situation
A large high over the Great Australian Bight extends a ridge into western
Queensland. The high is expected to move slowly east and weaken over the next
few days. A complex low occurs over the southern Tasman Sea.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Dry and cool over the state, chilly in the south this morning with extensive
early frost over many inland districts. Strong SE winds over southern Gulf this
morning and about the southeast coast. Moderate to fresh SE winds generally
across the tropics. Moderate S'ly winds over the interior, moderate to fresh SW
to SE winds about the central coast. A moderate to high fire danger over
southern, southeast districts, including the northeast tropics.
Forecast for Sunday
The high should enter South Australia and weaken a little but the overall
weather pattern for Queensland is much the same. The deep dry, cool S'ly
airstream will be maintained over Queensland, driven between the high and the
blocking depression over the southern Tasman Sea. Fine and sunny over most of
the state, however a more S'ly air steam in the southeast may allow for some
isolated showers to clip exposed parts of the coast. Strong winds extending to
Double Island Point on the southeast coast and continuing in the southern Gulf
in the morning. Lighter winds over the interior will result in extensive early
frost over many inland districts. A large S'ly swell expected near the southeast
coast.
Forecast for Monday
The high moves into New South Wales and weakens further. The blocking
depression finally moves southeast and weakens. Winds continue to ease around
the state with the last of the strong winds on the southeast coast in the
morning. Dry over most of Queensland apart from very isolated showers about
exposed points of the central and southeast coasts. Day maxima slowly rising but
the morning remains chilly over many parts of the state. Extensive early inland
frost again.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high weakens further and drifts into southeast Queensland, this will
reduce winds further across the state. Isolated showers about exposed points of
the east coast and redeveloping on the northeast tropical coast. Dry through the
interior with extensive early frost over many districts. Maximum temperatures
now reaching in the 25 to 30 range over western Queensland in the N'ly winds.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
The weak high starts to clear southeast Queensland on Wednesday then
completely moves off the coast on Thursday, NW winds over much of the state by
Thursday with warmer temperatures. Decreasing early frost over the southern
interior. A new trough will move through western Queensland on Friday with no
weather. Maximum temperatures reaching a peak over eastern districts on Friday
ahead of the change with NW winds. Becoming cold again following the change with
SW winds. Showers will persist about the northeast tropics and some parts of the
central coast. Dry over the remainder of the state.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Saturday.
