Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 9/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for Friday for coastal
waters south of St. Lawrence, excluding Moreton Bay.
A strong wind warning has been issued for southern Gulf waters for Friday
morning.

Weather Situation
A trough will sweep eastwards over southern Queensland this afternoon and
clear the southeast coast this evening. A new high will strengthen over the
Great Australian Bight in the wake of the trough, extending a firm ridge into
western Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Fine and sunny over much of the state apart from very isolated light showers
about the northeast tropical coast. Patchy high cloud over far southern
districts with no rainfall. Rather warm over eastern and southeast districts
ahead of the change with moderate W to NW winds. Becoming cooler in the west
with moderate to fresh S'ly winds. Light to moderate E to SE winds further north
and moderate to fresh SE winds over the tropics. A very high  fire danger in the
Maranoa and Warrego and Wide Bay and Burnett districts.
Forecast for Friday
The trough moves through the southern topics as the next high approaches
South Australia. Dry, cool air extending into the tropics, isolated showers in
the northern tropics contracting further north.  Chilly over the southern half
of the state with early frost over the southern and southeast interior. A cold
blast for the southeast region with day maximum temperatures well below average
and gusty S to SW winds which will produce significant  wind chill.  Strong S to
SW winds about the southeast and central coasts. Strong S to SE winds over the
southern Gulf in the morning. Moderate to fresh SE winds over the tropics.
Moderate SE to SW winds over the interior. A moderate to high fire danger over
many eastern districts, high to very high over the southeast and southern
interior. High to very high danger also for the northwest and Gulf region.
Forecast for Saturday
The high over South Australia will be blocked by the deep depression over the
southern Tasman Sea. Both systems will continue to direct a deep, cold dry
southerly winds into Queensland. Fine and sunny through the state. A chilly
morning over southern districts with extensive early frost over most of the
interior including possible frost in the southern tropics. Strong winds
persisting about the southeast coast and the southern Gulf in the morning.
Forecast for Sunday
The high slowly moves into Victoria but is still blocked by the intense
depression over the southern Tasman sea. Overall the weather is much the same
over Queensland. Dry over most districts apart from some isolated showers
redeveloping in the northern tropics. Possible showers also clipping the Gold
coast otherwise mostly fine. Chilly again over southern Queensland in the
morning with extensive early frost over most of the interior. Possible early
frost in the tropical interior and Tablelands. Strong winds continuing about the
southeast coast and southern Gulf in the morning.
Forecast for Monday
The high finally weakens over Victoria an the depression moves southeast into
New Zealand. Winds are easing over Queensland generally however strong winds may
still occur off the southeast coast.  Dry over most of the state apart from
isolated showers about exposed points of the east coast. Early frost again over
many inland districts.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
A new high enters the Bight on Tuesday with a cold front ahead passing
through New South Wales. This front will weaken and slide southeast but a trough
associated with the front over Queensland will progress east. This trough will
reach the southeast of the state on Thursday with no weather. Basically
remaining dry over the state with lighter winds and warmer day temperatures.
Morning temperatures remaining chilly with extensive inland early frost. Showers
returning to the northeast tropical coast and continuing into Thursday.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Friday.
