MELBOURNE - Aug 8/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front moved across Victoria today with another front affecting the State on Thursday. On Friday a low pressure system will deepen over the Tasman Sea while a high pressure system will develop near the Bight. These systems will drift slowly eastwards during the weekend. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayShowers over all districts, falling as snow above 1500 metres. Isolated hail and thunder over the southwest, mainly near the coast. Fresh west to northwesterly winds, moderating a little.Thursday 9 AugustShowers on and south of the ranges with isolated showers over the northern plains although fine over the far northwest. Local hail and thunder possible and snowfalls to around 700 metres. A cold day with fresh to strong southwesterly winds extending throughout during the morning.Friday 10 AugustShowers in East Gippsland. Isolated showers in remaining southern and mountain areas. Snow above 700 metres during the morning before the snow retreats to above 1300 metres later. Early frost inland. A cool to cold day with a strong and gusty south to southwesterly wind moderating from the west.Saturday 11 AugustScattered showers in East Gippsland. Isolated showers in remaining southern and mountain districts. Generally fine over the northern plains. Snow above 1500 metres. Early frost inland. A cool day with moderate to fresh southerly wind easing in the west.Sunday 12 AugustIsolated showers mainly in southern districts, falling as snow above 1600 metres and contracting eastwards and generally clearing later.
