MELBOURNE - Aug 8/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over New South Wales is weakening as a cold front approaches from the west. This front will move across the state tonight and Thursday, with an intense low pressure system forming over the central Tasman Sea by Friday. This frontal system will bring showers to the inland, mainly in the south, with snow falling to low levels on parts of the southern and central ranges during Thursday. It is also expected to produce very cold and gusty southwesterly winds across the region, easing gradually through the weekend as the low moves towards New Zealand and a new high pressure system moves over New South Wales. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayScattered showers developing across the southern inland, becoming widespread about the western slopes of the ranges and falling as snow on the Alps above 1500 metres. Fine elsewhere. West to northwest winds, freshening in the south and becoming strong to gale force about higher parts of the southern ranges.Thursday 9 AugustCold with gusty southwesterly winds. Isolated showers west of the Divide, clearing from the western inland. Showers scattered and falling as snow on the western slopes of the southern ranges above 600 metres, and possible snow on the central ranges above 900 metres. Generally fine east of the Divide, with just the chance of a brief shower or two.Friday 10 AugustCold south to southwest winds, strong and gusty near the coast. Isolated showers on the coast, mainly about the coastal fringe. Isolated showers on west slopes of the southern ranges, clearing. Fine and partly cloudy elsewhere.Saturday 11 AugustIsolated showers along the coast and adjacent ranges, tending scattered about parts of the coastal fringe. The chance of showers about the far southern ranges. Fine and partly cloudy elsewhere. Southerly winds, fresh to strong near the coast.Sunday 12 AugustIsolated showers along the coast and adjacent ranges, tending scattered about parts of the coastal fringe. The chance of showers about the far southern ranges. Fine and partly cloudy elsewhere.
