MELBOURNE - Aug 7/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over New South Wales is weakening. A cold front approaching Adelaide will move into NSW late Wednesday, then progress eastwards on Thursday, with an intense low pressure system forming in the central Tasman Sea by Friday. This frontal system will bring showers to the inland on Wednesday, mainly in the south, with snow falling to low levels on the western slopes of the southern and central ranges on Thursday. It is also expected to produce very cold and gusty southwesterly winds over NSW on Thursday and Friday. The low will move slowly east towards New Zealand over the weekend as a new high pressure system gradually extends across NSW. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayScattered showers developing across the southern inland later in the afternoon and evening, becoming widespread about the western slopes of the ranges and falling as snow on the Alps above 1500 metres. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Early frost areas, particularly about the ranges and western slopes. West to northwest winds, freshening in the south and becoming strong to gale force about the southern ranges.Thursday 9 AugustCold with gusty southwesterly winds. Isolated showers west of the Divide, tending scattered and falling as snow on the western slopes of the southern and central ranges above 700 metres. Showers possibly extending to the South Coast during the day, but otherwise fine along the remainder of the coast and eastern ranges.Friday 10 AugustCold with gusty south to southwest winds. Isolated showers on the coast, more frequent on the coastal fringe. Isolated clearing showers on west slopes of the southern ranges. Partly cloudy elsewhere.Saturday 11 AugustIsolated showers on the coast and adjacent ranges, tending scattered in central parts. Partly cloudy the remainder.
