Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 6/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high [1027 hPa] over South Australia extends a ridge across Southern
Queensland. A weak trough is moving through western Queensland and will clear
through the southeast of Queensland this evening. The high will then move
eastwards into southeast Queensland during Wednesday.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Fine and clear over most of the state with only isolated showers possible
about the east coast in the northern tropics. Light to moderate SW to SE winds,
fresh at time about the northeast coast.
Forecast for Tuesday
Fine and sunny conditions will continue over most of the state with only
isolated showers about the east coast in the far north. A cool morning over most
of the state with early frost areas about the central and southern interior.
Early fog patches are also likely about parts of the central and northeast
tropical coast. Light winds across the south of the state. Light to moderate SE
to E winds in the tropics, fresh at time about the east coast.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high will remain over southeast Queensland but will weaken during the
day, whilst a cold front should approach the southwest border of Queensland late
in the day. Remaining fine and sunny over much of the state with only isolated
showers in the northeast tropics. Another cool morning with extensive early
frost over central, southern and southeast districts. Maximum temperatures will
increase over the western and southern interior as winds tend NE to NW ahead of
the approaching cold front.
Forecast for Thursday
The cold front should move eastwards through southern and western Queensland
and clear off the southeast coast late in the evening, however no weather is
expected with the cold front due to the dry air over the state. Most of the
state will remain fine and sunny apart from isolated light showers again over
the far northeast. Early morning frost is again likely about the central and
southern interior. Maximum temperatures should be a few degrees above average
about the northwest, central interior and southeast of the state. However, cool
and fresh S to SW winds will spread in behind the cold front into southern
areas. The SW'ly wind change will reach the southeast region in the evening
with strong winds developing over far southern waters late in the evening.
Forecast for Friday
The cold front should continue to move offshore and a deep low is expected to
develop in the Tasman Sea. A high pressure system in the Great Australian Bight
will intensify and will combine with the low in the Tasman Sea to direct fresh,
dry and cold S to SW winds across the state. SW winds in the southeast of the
state are likely to be fresh to strong and gusty, leading to a significant wind
chill. Fine and cold across most of the state with only isolated morning showers
about the far northeast of the state.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
The low pressure system should continue to move southeastwards across the
Tasman Sea during the outlook period whilst the ridge over Queensland will
gradually weaken. Most of the state will remain fine and sunny throughout the
period although isolated showers could affect the southern Border Ranges on
Sunday and may affect the far northeast coast at times. Temperatures will remain
cool throughout the outlook period with early frosts about the central and
southern interior, although these should become less extensive by Monday
morning.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Tuesday.
