MELBOURNE - Aug 5/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A ridge of high pressure occurs over Southern Queensland, a weak trough is moving through western Queensland and will reach the southeast region this evening. The next high will then move into southeast Queensland by Wednesday before a cold front enters western Queensland on Thursday. Forecast for the rest of Monday Dry over most of the state apart from possible isolated showers in the northern tropics. Chilly over the central, southern and the southeast interior this morning with extensive early frost. Moderate to high fire danger over the southeast region. Moderate NW to SW winds over southern districts, light winds through the central interior and the central coast. Moderate to fresh SE winds across the tropics. Forecast for Tuesday A weak high from South Australia will move along the Queensland/New South Wales border easing winds over southern Queensland. A new cold front will sweep across the Bight towards South Australia. Dry conditions will continue over the state apart from isolated showers in the northeast tropics, extending south to about Cooktown. Chilly over the southern half of the state in the morning with a expanded early frost area, now reaching west to about Quilpie. Strong SE winds possible in the northeast tropics. Forecast for Wednesday The cold front approaches the western Queensland border while the weak high moves over southeast Queensland. Extensive early frost over central, southern and southeast districts. Early frost also extending into the Channel Country. Dry conditions persisting over most of the state. Isolated showers about the northeast tropical coast north of about Cardwell. Forecast for Thursday The cold front sweeps through southern and western Queensland with no weather. Warmer NW winds ahead of the change will reduce the early frost, contracting it east. Daytime temperatures reaching about 26C over southern and southeast Queensland ahead of the change. Maximum temperatures also reaching about 31C in the northwest of the state. Fire dangers may be high over southeast Queensland during the afternoon. The SW'ly wind change will reach the southeast region in the evening with SW winds to follow increasing to strong wind force overnight. Generally dry over the state apart from isolated showers about the northeast tropical coast. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday The cold front clears the central coast early Friday morning and eventually the southern tropical coast later in the morning. A cold blast for the southeast of the state on Friday with brisk SSW winds. Dry cool air will push far north into the tropics resulting in showers clearing on the northeast tropical coast. Dry over the remainder of the state with expanded early frost over the southern interior. Chilly temperatures continuing for most of Queensland on Saturday as the next high enters South Australia maintaining the cold southerly airstream into Queensland. An intense depression develops over the southern Tasman Sea during this time with expanded shower activity. This shower activity will enter New South Wales and approach the border near southeast of Queensland. By Sunday the intense depression blocks the high, maintaining chilly southerly winds through the state. Some showers may swing over the southeast from New South Wales. Dry over the remainder of the state. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Monday.
