Weather Situation
A ridge of high pressure occurs over Southern Queensland, a weak trough is
moving through western Queensland and will reach the southeast region this

northern tropics. Chilly over the central, southern and the southeast interior
this morning with extensive early frost. Moderate to high fire danger over the
southeast region. Moderate NW to SW winds over southern districts, light winds
through the central interior and the central coast. Moderate to fresh SE winds
across the tropics.
Forecast for Tuesday
A weak high from South Australia will move along the Queensland/New South
Wales border easing winds over southern Queensland. A new cold front will sweep
across the Bight towards South Australia. Dry conditions will continue over the
state apart from isolated showers in the northeast tropics, extending south to
about Cooktown. Chilly over the southern half of the state in the morning with
a expanded early frost area, now reaching west to about Quilpie. Strong SE winds
possible in the northeast tropics.

moves over southeast Queensland. Extensive early frost over central, southern
and southeast districts. Early frost also extending into the Channel Country.
Dry conditions persisting over most of the state. Isolated showers about the
northeast tropical coast north of about Cardwell.
Forecast for Thursday
The cold front sweeps through southern and western Queensland with no
weather. Warmer NW winds ahead of the change will reduce the early frost,
contracting it east. Daytime temperatures reaching about 26C over southern and
southeast Queensland ahead of the change. Maximum temperatures also reaching
about 31C in the northwest of the state. Fire dangers may be high over southeast
Queensland during the afternoon. The SW'ly wind change will reach the southeast
region in the evening with SW winds to follow increasing to strong wind force
overnight. Generally dry over the state apart from isolated showers about the
northeast tropical coast.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The cold front clears the central coast early Friday morning and eventually
the southern tropical coast later in the morning. A cold blast for the southeast
of the state on Friday with brisk SSW winds. Dry cool air will push far north
into the tropics resulting in showers clearing on the northeast tropical coast.
Dry over the remainder of the state with expanded early frost over the southern
interior. Chilly temperatures continuing for most of Queensland on Saturday as
the next high enters South Australia maintaining the cold southerly airstream
into Queensland. An intense depression develops over the southern Tasman Sea
during this time with expanded shower activity. This shower activity will
enter New South Wales and approach the border near southeast of Queensland. By
Sunday the intense depression blocks the high, maintaining chilly southerly
winds through the state. Some showers may swing over the southeast from New
South Wales. Dry over the remainder of the state.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Monday.
