MELBOURNE - Aug 5/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A ridge of high pressure will persist through southern Queensland for the
next few days, with a ridge extending northwards along the tropical east coast.
A trough and southwesterly wind change will move through southern Queensland on
Monday.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Dry and clear over most of the state, with just one or two light showers
possible over far northern Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait. Light winds
over southern districts tending moderate to fresh southeasterly over the
tropics.
Forecast for Monday
Fine and mostly sunny over the vast majority of the state, apart from
isolated light showers over far northern Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait.
A cold morning with early frosts over the central and southeast inland. Light to
moderate SE to SW winds, fresh at times in the far north. A high to very high
fire danger over the Wide Bay and Burnett and Southeast Coast districts.
Forecast for Tuesday
A weak high will move along the Queensland/New South Wales border,
maintaining the ridge along the tropical east coast. Mostly dry and sunny over
the state apart from isolated showers on the northeast tropical coast. Chilly
over the central, southern and southeast interior in the morning with extensive
early frost, followed by a relatively cool day.
Forecast for Wednesday
The weak high will reach the southeast region of Queensland while an upstream
cold front will move eastwards through South Australia, approaching far
southwestern Queensland in the evening. Dry conditions will continue over the
state apart from isolated showers in the northeast tropics, extending south to
about Cardwell. Early frost contracting to just the southeastern interior as
temperatures rise in the west associated with warmer northwest winds ahead of
the front.
Forecast for Thursday
The cold front will sweep across southern and western Queensland on Thursday
accompanied by a fresh and gusty southwesterly wind change, but no rainfall. A
few frosts once again over the southeast interior. Daytime temperatures will be
warm over southern Queensland in the northwesterly winds ahead of the cold
front, and fire dangers will become very high over southeast Queensland during
the afternoon with the dry, warm and windy conditions. Isolated showers will
continue along the east coast north of about Ingham.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The cold front will move off the southeast and central coasts on Friday
morning, followed by a blast of cold southwesterly winds. Some light drizzle or
showers may occur over the southern Darling Downs and Granite Belt, possibly
mixed with some sleet over the higher terrain. By Saturday, the front will
weaken into a trough and move into the tropics. Cold and drier conditions will
then dominate southern and central districts, with widespread early frosts. The
deep southerly air stream will remain in place as the next upstream high enters
South Australia. This dry air will penetrate northwards to cover most of the
state including the tropics by the weekend.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Monday.
