Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 5/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A strong cold front over central Victoria will move away to the east tonight as an associated low pressure system moves south of Tasmania. The low will move away to the southeast on Monday, A high pressure system will then drift across New South Wales later on Monday and Tuesday with a weak ridge crossing Victoria. Another cold front will move through Victoria during Wednesday with a following front on Thursday.
Forecast for the rest of SundayScattered showers on and south of the ranges and isolated showers over the northern plains, clearing from the northwest. Snowfalls lowering to 900 metres tonight. Local hail and thunder about West and South Gippsland, the eastern ranges and near the coast. Fresh west to northwesterly winds, strong to locally gale force about parts of the coast and ranges. Winds gradually tending west to southwesterly from the west tonight.Monday 6 AugustIsolated showers in southern and mountain areas, scattered near the coast and on the eastern highlands during the morning but the showers mostly clearing by the evening. Local hail and thunder possible at first over South Gippsland and the East Gippsland coast. Snowfalls down to 900 metres in the morning, rising above 1200 metres in the afternoon. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh westerly winds, strong about the coast at first but easing then tending northwesterly over the west at night.Tuesday 7 AugustEarly frost and fog patches over the northeast. A mostly sunny day, although still the chance of a light morning shower about the Gippsland coast and isolated showers possible on the eastern highlands and the far southwest. A mild day with moderate to fresh northwest to northerly winds, strengthening later over southwestern and elevated areas.Wednesday 8 AugustScattered showers developing from the west, more isolated over the northwest. Isolated thunderstorms possible over the southwest and near the west Gippsland coast. Showers falling as snow down to 1200 metres by evening. A cool to mild and partly cloudy day with moderate to fresh north to northwest wind, strong at first over southern and elevated areas. Winds shifting west to northwesterly later in the day.Thursday 9 AugustScattered showers near and south of the ranges tending more widespread over west Gippsland and the southwestern coast. Local hail and thunder possible in the south, mainly near the coast. A generally cold day with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds extending throughout during the morning.
