Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 4/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A cold front south of the Bight will cross southern Victoria on Sunday morning and will be followed by a cold, vigorous and unstable west to southwesterly airflow lasting until Monday morning. A high pressure system will drift across New South Wales later on Monday and Tuesday with a weak ridge crossing Victoria. Another cold front will move through Victoria during Wednesday.
Forecast for the rest of SaturdayIsolated showers in the southwest and about the eastern highlands with light snowfalls above 1300 metres. Fine elsewhere with northwest to northerly winds, freshening near the coast.Sunday 5 AugustScattered showers on and south of the ranges with isolated showers developing on the northern plains. Snowfalls lowering to 1000 metres by the evening. Local hail and thunder near the coast, mainly in the afternoon. Generally cool at first with fresh northwesterly winds, strong about the coast and ranges but becoming colder in the afternoon and evening as winds gradually turn squally west to southwesterly.Monday 6 AugustIsolated showers in southern and mountain areas, scattered near the coast and on the eastern highlands during the morning but the showers mostly clearing by the evening. Local hail at first in the southeast. Snowfalls down to 900 metres in the morning, rising above 1300 metres in the afternoon. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh westerly winds, strong about the coast at first but easing then tending northwesterly at night.Tuesday 7 AugustEarly frost and fog patches over the northeast. A generally fine and mostly sunny day, although still the chance of a light shower on the eastern highlands and about the southwest and South Gippsland coast. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh northwest to northerly winds, strengthening later over southern and elevated areas.Wednesday 8 AugustIsolated showers in most southern and mountain areas, becoming scattered over the southwest. A cool and partly cloudy day with moderate to fresh north to northwest wind, strong at first over southern and elevated areas.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EST Sunday.Product IDV10310
