MELBOURNE - Aug 3/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front moving across Tasmania and central Bass Strait this morning will weaken as it slides southeastwards across east Bass Strait by early afternoon. Stronger cold fronts will affect southern Victoria on Sunday as a low develops south of Tasmania. On Monday a high pressure system will develop over South Australia with a ridge extending across northern Victoria. The high will move slowly eastwards over inland New South Wales on Tuesday as another cold front enters the Bight. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayIsolated showers over most districts this morning, more frequent in the southwest and about the east ranges but remaining fine in the northwest. Showers contracting to the southwest and east ranges during the afternoon and mostly clearing by the evening. Snow above 1300 metres. Cool with moderate to fresh west to northwest winds, strong at times about the ranges.Sunday 5 AugustScattered showers on and south of the ranges with isolated showers elsewhere, although fine over the far northwest. Snow above 1200 metres. Local hail developing about the southwest and central coast during the evening. A cool to mild day with a moderate to fresh west to northwesterly wind, strong and gusty at times in the south.Monday 6 AugustIsolated showers in southern and mountain areas, scattered near the coast during the morning with local hail, mostly clearing at night. Isolated showers possible over the northern plains but fine over the far northwest. Snow above 1200 metres. A cool day with a moderate to fresh westerly wind, strong at first along the coast.Tuesday 7 AugustEarly frost and fog patches over central and eastern districts then a mostly sunny day, cloud increasing in the afternoon.
