MELBOURNE - Aug 2/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A weak high will become slow moving near the southern Queensland border today. A low pressure system in the Tasman Sea will remain slow moving and weaken slightly. An upper level trough will move over southern Queensland on Friday. Forecast for the rest of Thursday Continuing dry over most of the state apart from isolated light showers about the northeast tropical coast. High cloud increasing near the southern border during the evening though with no rain. Moderate to fresh SE winds along the east tropical coast. Light to moderate SW to SE winds over the remainder Forecast for Friday Patchy high cloud through southern districts though with no rainfall expected due to the dry airmass. Early morning fogs are likely through the eastern tropics. Isolated light showers over the northeast tropical coast, with fine and sunny conditions elsewhere over the state. Minimum temperatures will remain below average, particularly through the southern, central and southeast inland where widespread early frosts are expected. Forecast for Saturday Queensland's weather will continue to be dominated by a ridge of high pressure extending through southern parts of the state. The upper trough and associated high cloud over southern districts will contract out to sea in the early hours with fine and sunny conditions then extending through most of the state. Some early fogs are again likely through the eastern tropics. Isolated light shower activity will be confined to Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait. Widespread early frosts will again occur through the central, southern and southeastern interior. Forecast for Sunday A broad ridge of high pressure will persist over southern Queensland, maintaining a dry and stable airmass over most of the state with only isolated showers about the northeast tropical coast north of Cooktown. Much of the state will have a cold start to the day, with widespread early frosts over central and southern districts. Forecast for Monday A broad ridge of high pressure will persist over southern Queensland from a high over New South Wales, maintaining a dry and stable airmass over most of the state with only isolated showers about the northeast tropical coast north of Cooktown. Much of the state will have yet another cold start to the day, with widespread early frosts over central and southern districts, contracting slightly out of the southwest. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday Conditions will remain dry over most of the state during the outlook period. The high over New South Wales will move slowly east into the Tasman Sea on Wednesday, with the associated ridge over Queensland dominating the weather pattern during the outlook period. Cold conditions will persist through the interior with some early frosts through central and southern parts, contracting to the southeast interior by Wednesday. Isolated light showers on the northeast tropical coast will eventually extend to remaining exposed parts of the east coast from Wednesday as the high drifts east and winds tend more moist SE'ly.
