Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 1/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A weak high will become slow moving near the southern Queensland border
today. A low pressure system in the Tasman Sea will remain slow moving and
weaken slightly. Large S'ly swells over southern exposed beaches will decrease
during the day.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Continuing dry over most of the state apart from isolated light showers about
the northeast tropical coast. High cloud increasing near the southern border
during the afternoon and evening though with no rain. A cold morning over much
of the state with extensive early frosts through the central and southern
interior. Moderate to fresh SE winds along the east tropical coast. Light to
moderate SW to SE winds over the remainder, fresh at times about the southern
coast during the morning.
Forecast for Friday
A high pressure ridge will persist over southern Queensland and continue to
circulate a dry, stable wind flow over much of the state. The passage of an
upper level trough will generate some patchy high cloud through southern
districts though with no rainfall expected due to the dry airmass. Early morning
fogs are likely through the eastern tropics. Isolated light showers will
continue in the onshore wind flow over the northeast tropical coast, with fine
and sunny conditions elsewhere over the state. Minimum temperatures will remain
below average, particularly through the southern, central and southeast inland
where widespread early frosts are expected.
Forecast for Saturday
Queensland's weather will continue to be dominated by a ridge of high
pressure extending through southern parts of the state. The upper trough and
associated high cloud over southern districts will contract out to sea in the
early hours with fine and sunny conditions then extending through most of the
state. Some early fogs are again likely through the eastern tropics. Isolated
light shower activity will be confined to Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait.
Widespread early frosts will again occur through the central, southern and
southeastern interior.
Forecast for Sunday
A broad ridge of high pressure will persist over southern Queensland,
maintaining a dry and stable airmass over most of the state with only isolated
showers about the northeast tropical coast north of Cooktown. Much of the state
will have yet another cold start to the day, with widespread early frosts over
central and southern districts. A trough will move into southwestern Queensland,
generating some patchy cloud but no rainfall.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
Conditions will remain dry over most of the state during the outlook period.
The trough and associated patchy cloud will extend east over southern districts
on Monday but with no rainfall expected. A new high will enter New South Wales
on Monday in the wake of the trough and extend a firm ridge into Queensland.
This ridge will dominate Queensland's weather during the outlook period. Dry
conditions will persist through the interior with some early frosts through
central and southern parts. Isolated light showers on the northeast tropical
coast will eventually extend to remaining exposed parts of the east coast from
Wednesday as the high drifts east and winds tend more moist SE'ly.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Thursday.
