MELBOURNE - Aug 1/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system lies over the southeastern Tasman Sea and a high south of Tasmania extends a ridge over western NSW. The high will move slowly east and the low will remain almost stationary near New Zealand until the weekend. A series of cold fronts are expected to pass over southern parts of Australia over the next few days, with a trough associated with the first of these fronts expected to enter the far southwest of New South Wales overnight Thursday night or early on Friday. A high pressure ridge is expected to be dominant across northern parts of New South Wales, constricting the effects of the cold fronts to far southern parts of New South Wales, mainly over the far southern slopes and ranges from Friday until Monday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayIsolated showers along the central coast and possible late showers in the far southwest. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Widespread morning frost, mainly inland. Northwest to southwest winds. Dangerous surf conditions along the coast.Friday 3 AugustIsolated showers in the southeastern inland. Partly cloudy elsewhere. Morning frost inland. West to northwesterly winds.Saturday 4 AugustScattered snow showers on the Alps. Isolated showers on the western slopes of the southern ranges. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Westerly winds.Sunday 5 AugustIsolated showers about the western slopes of the southern ranges, and possibly the far south coast. Fine remainder.
