MELBOURNE - Aug 1/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high approaching southeast Australia is expected to weaken as it moves northeast. A low pressure system in the Tasman Sea will remain slow moving and weaken slightly. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Fine, cool and sunny conditions over most of the state apart from isolated showers about the northeast tropical coast, north of Cooktown. Moderate to fresh SE winds over the tropics, light to moderate SW to SE winds over the remainder. Forecast for Thursday Continuing dry over most of the state apart from isolated showers about the northeast tropical coast, north of Cooktown. A cold morning over the southern districts with widespread early frost over central and southern districts. Moderate to fresh SE winds over the tropics, tending mostly light to moderate SW to SE over the remainder. Forecast for Friday The weak high now enters southeast Queensland bringing lighter winds. Some high cloud developing near the southern border but no rain. Remaining dry over most of the state apart from isolated showers in the northeast tropics, extending south to about Cardwell during the morning. A cold morning with widespread early frost over central and southern districts. Frost may be reduced near the far southern border due to high cloud. Forecast for Saturday A broad ridge of high pressure remains through central Australia and into southern Queensland. The high cloud has cleared out to sea and sunny skies remain. Widespread early frost over central and southern districts. Dry through most of the state apart from isolated showers about the northeast tropical coast, north of Cooktown. Forecast for Sunday A broad ridge of high pressure remains over southern Queensland. Dry across much of the state with isolated showers about the northeast tropical coast, north of Cooktown. A cold morning with widespread morning frosts over central and southern districts. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday Little change in the pattern for Monday and Tuesday as the high strengthens over eastern Queensland. Dry over much of the state expect for isolated showers about the northeast tropics. Morning frosts contracting slightly towards the southeast interior. Winds are likely to turn more onshore on Wednesday leading to isolated showers developing along the east coast. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Thursday.
