MELBOURNE - Jul 31/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A slow moving high lies to the west of Tasmania and will weaken as it drifts northeast into New South Wales on Wednesday. The combination of the high pressure ridge and a deep low near New Zealand will maintain a cool, dry southerly airstream over much of Queensland for the outlook period. Forecast for the rest of Tuesday Isolated light showers near the northeast tropical coast and about Fraser Island. Isolated light showers also developing near the Capricorn coast this evening. Light to moderate SW to SE winds, fresh at times along the east coast. Forecast for Wednesday Isolated light showers over the far northeast tropical coast. Isolated light showers clearing Fraser Island and the Capricorn coast early morning. Fine and sunny elsewhere. A powerful S'ly swell about exposed southern beaches. A cold morning over much of the state with widespread early frosts over inland parts of southern, central and western Queensland. Light to moderate SW to SE winds, fresh at times along the east coast. Forecast for Thursday The weakening high pressure system should drift east over the southern Queensland border, with fine and sunny conditions again extending over the state apart from isolated light showers in a moist onshore SE'ly wind flow along the northeast tropical coast. The powerful S'ly swells over southern Queensland waters will decrease. Minimum temperatures will remain well below average under the clear skies away from the northern tropics, with widespread early frosts through inland parts of southern, central and western Queensland. Forecast for Friday A high pressure ridge will persist over southern Queensland and continue to circulate a dry, stable wind flow over much of the state. The passage of an upper level trough will generate some patchy cloud through southern districts though with no rainfall expected due to the dry airmass. Isolated showers will continue in the onshore wind flow over the northeast tropical coast, with fine and sunny conditions elsewhere over the state. Minimum temperatures will remain below average, particularly through the southern, central and southeast inland where widespread early frosts are expected. Forecast for Saturday Queensland's weather will continue to be dominated by a ridge of high pressure extending through southern parts of the state. A drier S'ly wind flow in the tropics will contract isolated light shower activity to far northern Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait. Fine and sunny conditions will persist elsewhere, with widespread early frosts through the central, southern and southeastern interior. Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday Conditions will remain fine and sunny over most of the state during the outlook period. Isolated light showers will occur near the north tropical coast north of about Cooktown. A trough will move east over the southern border on Sunday before contracting off the southeast coast on Monday. Little if any precipitation is expected with this trough with just the chance of isolated light showers near the southern border. A new high will enter New South Wales in the wake of the trough during Monday, extending a firm ridge into Queensland. Early frosts will continue through the southeast, central and southern interior. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Wednesday.
