Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 30/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over the Great Australia Bight extends a ridge into Western Queensland
with a dry, cool SE to SW airstream over state. An upper level trough over the
Northern Territory is producing some high cloud about the south of Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Fine and mostly sunny across most of the state. Isolated light showers about
northern Cape York Peninsula, and possibly developing about the exposed coast
and islands in the southeast late today. A chilly morning in the south and early
frost over the interior. Light to moderate SW to SE winds.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high should rapidly weaken near Tasmania, allowing winds to weaken over
most of Queensland. Dry conditions should remain in place over most of the
state, with just isolated light showers about the exposed east coast and far
north. Widespread early frost is likely over the southern inland under clear
skies with light winds.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high should weaken further while drifting northeast over New South Wales.
Dry conditions with extensive early frost over the southern and central
interior, including the southeast. Isolated showers should continue about
exposed parts of the east coast, clearing in the south during the day.
Forecast for Thursday
The weakening high pressure system should drift over southern inland
Queensland, with winds continuing to ease over the southeast region. This will
extend early frost west while maintaining it over southern, central and
southeast interiors. Fine conditions over most of the state, with isolated
showers should become confined to the northeast tropical coast.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
A weak ridge of high pressure should remain in place over southern Queensland
through the outlook period, leading to dry and stable conditions continuing over
the vast majority of the state, with just isolated showers continuing on the
northeast tropical coast. An upper trough will move across southern Queensland
during Friday and Saturday and should produce some high cloud, but no rainfall
is expected with this feature due to the dry airmass in place. Extensive early
frost over the southern, central and southeast interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Monday.
