MELBOURNE - Jul 29/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high over the Western Great Australia Bight extends a ridge into Western Queensland with a dry, cool SE to SW airstream over state. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Possible isolated showers in the northern tropics otherwise dry over the remainder of the state. Some high cloud over southern inland districts. Light to moderate S to SW winds over southern districts, moderate to fresh SE winds across the tropics. Forecast for Monday The large high over the Great Australian Bight will move only very slowly eastwards, while a deep low over the eastern Tasman Sea remains near stationary. Both systems will maintain the deep dry, cool Southerly airstream over Queensland. A few light showers about the northeast tropical coast, and possible showers near exposed southeast coast. A chilly morning in the south and extensive early frost over the interior. Forecast for Tuesday The high should rapidly weaken near Tasmania, allowing winds to weaken over most of Queensland. Dry conditions should remain in place over most of the state, with just isolated light showers about the northeast tropical coast, and developing about exposed parts of the east coast further south. Widespread early frost is likely over the southern inland under clear skies with light winds. Forecast for Wednesday The southern high should weaken further while drifting northeast over New South Wales. Dry conditions with extensive early frost over the southern and central interior, including the southeast. Isolated showers should continue about exposed parts of the east coast. Forecast for Thursday The small high now ends up over southeast east Queensland with greatly reduced winds over the larger southeast region. This will extend early frost west while maintaining it over southern, central and southeast interiors. Isolated showers now confined to the northeast tropical coast. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday A weak high disappears on Friday but a new cell forms over the southeast on Saturday. Dry weather continuing over most of the state into Sunday with isolated showers only on the northeast tropical coast. Extensive early frost over the southern, central and southeast interior. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Monday.
