Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 29/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over the Western Great Australia Bight extends a ridge into Western
Queensland with a dry, cool SE to SW airstream over state.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Possible isolated showers in the northern tropics otherwise dry over the
remainder of the state. Some high cloud over southern inland districts. Light to
moderate S to SW winds over southern districts, moderate to fresh SE winds
across the tropics.
Forecast for Monday
The large high over the Great Australian Bight will move only very slowly
eastwards, while a deep low over the eastern Tasman Sea remains near
stationary. Both systems will maintain the deep dry, cool Southerly airstream
over Queensland. A few light showers about the northeast tropical coast, and
possible showers near exposed southeast coast. A chilly morning in the south and
extensive early frost over the interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high should rapidly weaken near Tasmania, allowing winds to weaken over
most of Queensland. Dry conditions should remain in place over most of the
state, with just isolated light showers about the northeast tropical coast, and
developing about exposed parts of the east coast further south. Widespread early
frost is likely over the southern inland under clear skies with light winds.
Forecast for Wednesday
The southern high should weaken further while drifting northeast over New
South Wales. Dry conditions with extensive early frost over the southern and
central interior, including the southeast. Isolated showers should continue
about exposed parts of the east coast.
Forecast for Thursday
The small high now ends up over southeast east Queensland with greatly
reduced winds over the larger southeast region. This will extend early frost
west while maintaining it over southern, central and southeast interiors.
Isolated showers now confined to the northeast tropical coast.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
A weak high disappears on Friday but a new cell forms over the southeast on
Saturday. Dry weather continuing over most of the state into Sunday with
isolated showers only on the northeast tropical coast. Extensive early frost
over the southern, central and southeast interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Monday.
