MELBOURNE - Jul 29/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system over the Tasman Sea will move towards New Zealand and deepen tonight before meandering over the eastern Tasman Sea for most of the week. A strong high pressure system south of the Bight will move slowly eastwards towards Tasmania on Monday and Tuesday. The high will weaken on Wednesday as it slides southeastwards, but an associated ridge will cross Victoria. A weakening cold front will approach southwestern Victoria from the west later on Thursday. Forecast for the rest of SundayScattered showers on and south of the ranges, more isolated over the west. Local hail over the southeast. Isolated showers possible in some northern areas but remaining fine in the far northwest. Snowfalls above 1000 metres. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh southwest winds.Monday 30 JulyEarly morning fog and frosts inland. Isolated showers in the south but scattered showers in East Gippsland. A cool to cold and partly cloudy day. Moderate to fresh southerly winds.Tuesday 31 JulyScattered showers in East Gippsland. Isolated showers in remaining southern areas, mostly clearing in the west. Widespread inland frost. Dry and mainly sunny over the north. A cool day with a light to moderate southerly wind.Wednesday 1 AugustIsolated showers over Gippsland, scattered in the far east, contracting eastwards during the day. Widespread inland frosts and local morning fog elsewhere, then a mainly sunny day across the north but partly cloudy in the south. Cool with generally light winds.Thursday 2 AugustFine until isolated showers develop later in the southwest.
